Mortal Kombat: Dan "Toasty" Forden Makes His Triumphant Return

Remember when you'd score several uppercuts in the older Mortal Kombat games and Dan Forden from Midway (now NetherRealm) would pop out and say "toasty!"? For those of you that do, you were probably wondering whether or not he'd make his little cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat 9, considering it's such a return to form. Well, here's your answer, straight from the MK demo:

Mortal Kombat Demo Impressions from Avoiding The Puddle

Aris over at Avoiding the Puddle put together a solid video going over the new Mortal Kombat demo. This is a good video because its someone who actually knows about fighting games going over the mechanics. Both Aris and I have been talking about the game recently and a lot of the gameplay design decisions seem pretty odd to both of us. That said, Mortal Kombat has never been like any other fighter out there for the most part so we'll just have to see how all this pans out in the final build.

Either way, check out the video below when you have about 20 minutes to spare and keep an eye on Avoiding the Puddle as Aris has more impression videos planned for the very near future.

Mortal Kombat Demo - The Kombat Kontinues Teaser Trailer

I saw this a little earlier today on a live stream of the demo and I gotta' say it got me pretty hype for the game. This is the newest trailer for Mortal Kombat which shows a bunch of combos, fatalities and more footage of Kratos. I don't have the demo myself but I think it plays after you complete a handful of fights or something. Anyway, be warned, it's just as awesome as it is gruesome!

Thanks to  for the upload!

New Scorpion and Sub-Zero Combo Videos from Mortal Kombat Demo

As many of you know the Mortal Kombat demo was released to PS3 users with Playstation Plus today, and it looks like players are already in the lab posting up videos. Doug the Thug and Hoodaman sent over a few uploaded by CHECK4900 that show some combos for both Scorpion and Sub-Zero that take off over half life each! Keep in mind this is a demo so some of this stuff might not work in the final build.

What do you guys think? Looking forward to getting your hands on the game or not sold yet?

Official Website for the National Mortal Kombat Tournament with a 21K Prize Pool is Now Live

If you thought Mortal Kombat was just going to be all fun and gore with no competitive scene, the upcoming National Tournament may change your mind about all that. This tournament will take place on May 14th through the 15th at Bally's in Las Vegas, NV. With a shared prize pool of 21K, I think it's safe to say that players will be grinding real hard as soon as the game drops for a chance to get some of the cash.

The official website for the tournament is now open, and while there aren't too many details about the event itself, you can submit your email to be notified when registration is open. Check it out by clicking here.

Mortal Kombat Secret Achievements List Reveal Cyber Sub-Zero & More

Danny D sent over a link containing a list of achievements for Mortal Kombat that reveal that Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi will be unlockable characters. If they are playable or not is yet to be seen, but I wouldn't doubt it considering it looks like there will be no end to additional characters via DLC.

The same list also hints at a few other things, such as "Complete-ality" where it mentions you must perform one of each "-ality". Does that mean we can expect things like Anamalities and Babalities? Hmmm! Check out the full list by clicking here

GameSpot: Interview with Ed Boon on Mortal Kombat's Balance, Challenge Tower

GameSpot posted up an interesting interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon on a number of Mortal Kombat 9-related topics, such as NetherRealm's use of 'tournament players' to influence the game's balance as well as more info on the Challenge Tower and more. The gameplay footage shown is the same from the On the Spot video from yesterday, but Ed Boon does drop a few new bits of info in the video.

GDC: New Mortal Kombat Preview from GameSpot feat. Ed Boon

As part of GameSpot's GDC coverage, they uploaded a 20 minute segment with Ed Boon doing a live preview of Mortal Kombat. Maybe I haven't been keeping up with the game as much as I should, but the majority of the footage in this video is stuff that I personally haven't seen yet. New fatalities, new X-Ray moves, Baraka in motion, new stages -- the list goes on and on. If you're looking forward to the next installment of Mortal Kombat, don't miss this preview! Check out the full video after the break.

Mortal Kombat Demo Coming to PlayStation Plus Subscribers Next Week

Updated on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 8:55AM by Registered CommenterKumo

Good news if you've been on the fence about Mortal Kombat -- provided you have a PS3 and you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, that is. On March 8, the Mortal Kombat demo will be auto-downloaded for all PlayStation Plus subscribers and will include four characters: Sub Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Mileena as well as two stages, The Pit and The Living Forest.

You'll be able to fight it out against the CPU in the singleplayer mode or against a friend in the one-on-one versus mode. If you have one of those insanely expensive 3DTVs, you'll also be able to enjoy it in stereoscopic 3D, if that's your thing.

If you're not a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you won't be completely left out. The demo will be available for all to download on the PlayStation Network a week later. So, are you guys excited that you'll be able to try out Mortal Kombat before you buy it?

Numerous Mortal Kombat 9 Details Emerge from Australian Classification Refusal

The one positive note in Australia's classification refusal of Mortal Kombat 9 is that a lot of information about the game can be mined from the board's documents explaining the reasoning behind the decision. fernoca from NEOGAF was kind enough to sift through it and pick out some pretty nifty details about the game, so big thanks to fernoca! You can find the document contents used as the source at Mortal Kombat Online.

Read on to get details on the game, including the staggering number of fatalities!  It surely surprised me! Read on!

Mortal Kombat 9 Will Not Get Australian Release Due to Classification Board Ruling

The Australian Classification Board has decided to refuse classification for the upcoming Mortal Kombat.  This means that the game will not see an Australian release unless changes are made to the game or the decision is overturned in the future.

Warner Bros, who is publishing the game, put out a press statement with their reaction to the situation. If you want a much more in-depth summary of this situation, visit TRMK here.

How to Make a Killer Fatality for Mortal Kombat

NetherRealm Studios' Director of Art, Steve Beran, has an excellent article over on the PlayStation.Blog detailing how the team comes up with all of those crazy and gruesome fatalities. The article isn't going to tell you anything about the game that you didn't know, but the insight into the creative process is pretty neat. You can give it a read by heading over to this link.

IGN's got the scoop on a brand new character reveal for Mortal Kombat, Noob Saibot, by way of a trailer over on their site. Going by the video, it looks like he retains some of his classic moves, but with a few new ones and a few twists on old ones. All in all, I think he actually looks pretty awesome.
