MK: New PSVita Gameplay Trailer Demonstrates Touchscreen Fatalities

A new gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat for the PSVita surfaced today showcasing a number of different features for the handheld system. It appears they are pulling out all the stops as you can use the touchscreen and motion controls for everything from actual combat to various mini-games.

You can also use the touchscreen for fatalities! Not only can you input the command by using your finger, but you can chop off limbs and various other body parts if the fatality allows it. Pretty gruesome!

Ed Boon Talks Character Customization

In an Gamespot interview with Ed Boon from NetherRealm studios the director shares his opinion on character customization in fighters.

Character customization can be taken in such a broad range of interpreation. From my personal perspective, to say, okay well, let the player dress his character; put on a scarf, a belt, put other things. I think there's novelty to that, and it's fun, but I don't know how much weight that really carries. If you can modify things like the properties in certain attacks, or if they're carrying a certain weapon, changing that weapon. Make it a little more interesting.

The History of Mortal Kombat - Episode 1 Explains the Game's Van Damme Origins

Updated on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 2:10PM by Registered CommenterCarmine

MK Secrets put together a nice video detailing the history of the original Mortal Kombat. Did you know that Mortal Kombat was originally conceived as a game starring a digitized Jean Claude Van Damme? Since JCVD's schedule wasn't compatible, the designers ended up making the game without him. Also, the only reason that Liu Kang has hair is because the actor playing the bald monk wouldn't shave his head!

Get a look at some of the design sketches and controversies surrounding the first Mortal Kombat game after the break!

Mortal Kombat: Post-patch Cyrax Combos Are Anything But Nerfed

In balancing Mortal Kombat, the developers have had some difficulty toning down Cyrax's bomb resets. With each patch, they've tried to find ways to eliminate some variations of the resets; however, clever players just find new workarounds. TONY-T, whose previous Cyrax videos you may remember, shows off the latest explosive technology. Also, Check4900 already has a 100% combo.

In LiangHuBBB's Latest Comeback Compilation, Skullomania Runs Wild

Okay, so it's not Skullomania, but it's TKD's Fuerte impersonating the scarfed skeleton. Watch as Ojisanboy's Sagat pays the ultimate price for a single, clutch whiff. In classic LiangHuBBB style, the video shows a bunch of SF4 series matches, but also has some MK thrown in for good measure.

Mortal Kombat is probably one of the most memorable video games movies to date, even if it's just because of the theme song alone, and it looks like the series is getting a live-action reboot thanks to New Line Cinema. The new movies are said to be directed by Kevin Tancharoen who, if you don't know, put together the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film (check it out below) which resulted in the MK: Legacy web series.

Mortal Kombat: Freddy Krueger and 2 New Sub-Zero Costumes Available Today via DLC. Kreuger Story Vignette Vid

The fourth DLC character for Mortal Kombat will be available today on Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network.  He is Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street series of horror movies!  Once again, hats off to NetherRealm for an outstanding pick for a crossover character!  Like previous DLC characters, Fredddy will cost $4.99 on PSN or 400 MS Points on XBL Marketplace.  Also available today are the MK3 Sub-Zero and the Cyber Sub-Zero costumes, which are available free of charge!  Both costumes are included with the Freddy DLC if you buy that, or with a separate free Compatibility Pack #4 if you don't.

A patch for the Playstation 3 version of the game hit yesterday as well.  This has no gameplay balance changes.  It apparently just fixes some problems with DLC.

To the left you see an official render for Freddy and inside you will find a story vignette video for him.  Each of these vignettes have been great, and this one is no exception.  It even explains why he has two sets of claws in his Mortal Kombat incarnation.

Feel free to share your impressions of the character in the comments!
