'Injustice Watchtower' reveals Robin trailer, beta and gameplay details

NetherRealm Studios held its first "Injustice Watchtower" stream for the upcoming game, showing off the gameplay trailer for Robin as well as offering more details of the game's beta and revealed characters.

The big news is that codes for the Injustice 2 beta are starting to be sent in waves to players who signed up for the program. The trial will include four characters—Batman, Supergirl, Superman and Atrocitus— at launch, rollback netcode and debut the game's equipment system for players to try out.

The equipment system allows players to customize a character in both gameplay and appearance, as different clothing or armor can provide different bonuses. There are also ability slots that can change a character's special moves, with some abilities even taking up more than one equip slot.

The stream also showed off the new Robin gameplay trailer as well as real matches involving Atrocitus and Batman. Players can check out the stream archive at Twitch and the Robin trailer after the jump.

Registration open for Injustice 2 beta

Players can now register to be part of an upcoming online beta test for Injustice 2.

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon made the announcement on Twitter, pointing everyone to the sign-up site but offering nothing more in the way of information, such as a start date for the beta.

It's also unknown how much content will be offered when the beta goes live. NRS previously offered an "Enhanced Online Beta" when the company was porting MKXL to the PC platform and finalizing new netcode, but it's unlikely that the Injustice 2 test will be anything more than a tease of what's to come in the game's final release.

Injustice 2 releases May 16, 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Injustice 2 story trailer released, versions detailed, characters teased

The trailer for Injustice 2's story mode has been unveiled, both picking up where the events of the first game left off and revealing new players who will be part of the drama as it unfolds.

Poison Ivy, Robin and Brainiac were all teased in the cinematic clip, along with returning character Bane. Brainiac and Robin have also been confirmed from an in-game image posted on NeoGAF. These reveals are so far in line with a potential roster spoiler, but it still remains to be seen if the whole list will be accurate.

What is confirmed, however, is that Injustice 2 will have at least nine DLC characters, as they will be included as part of the Ultimate Edition of the game along with three premier skins. The premier skins will offer different versions of the character: Supergirl will turn into Power Girl, for example. There will also be a Digital Deluxe edition of the game that will come with three DLC characters and one premier skin. There are no prices available for those editions at this time.

Injustice 2 arrives May 16, 2017. Check out the story trailer after the jump.

Darkseid playable in Injustice 2, preorder bonus DLC

The ruler of Apokolips will be coming to Injustice 2 as a preorder bonus, according to a leak from the PlayStation Network.

Maximilian grabbed a screenshot of the game's preorder page on PSN before it was taken down, and the bonuses include a special theme and "Darkseid, one of the greatest villains in the universe."

This would not be the first time NetherRealm Studios offered a character as a bonus for purchasing the game before release. Players will remember that NRS offered Goro in a similar manner for Mortal Kombat X.

Injustice 2 coming May 16, 2017

After some speculation, including a possible release date from Xbox, Injustice 2 has formally been announced to release on May 16, 2017.

Both Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios tweeted the information, which fans of the first game have been awaiting since the sequel's reveal in June 2016.

So far very little information has been made available about the Injustice sequel, with much of the cast remaining a mystery. The game will arrive four years and a month after its predecessor Injustice: Gods Among Us, which released on April 16, 2013, in North America.

Injustice 2 coming in late March 2017?

While the public does not yet have all the details on the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us sequel, a tentative release date may be available.

The Xbox Live Games on Demand preorder site lists the game's release as March 28, 2017. This would line up with previous NetherRealm Studios titles in terms of launch window.

What is confusing about this possible date is the relative lack of news about the NRS game since its announcement in June 2016. Even the game's website is sparse, only offering links to several of the game's trailers.

Injustice 2 has been announced for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Injustice 2 officially announced, Supergirl joins the cast

NetherRealm Studios has officially announced Injustice 2, with the game's release to be sometime in 2017.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, NetherRealm's Tyler Lansdown offered a brief glimpse into what the title will have in store for players as he detailed a new gear system that will be featured in Injustice 2. The gear system will work like items in a RPG, changing "not only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match." He said the story in Injustice 2 will pick up right where the original ended.

NRS also debuted a trailer for the game, showing returning character Aquaman, Flash, Superman and Batman fighting it out while their costumes changed to reflect the gear system. However, as the fight wore on newcomer Supergirl joined the fray. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Leaked poster reveals Injustice 2

After some speculation that NetherRealm's DC fighting game would have a sequel announced at this year's E3, it seems the rumors are true.

An image of a promo poster for the upcoming Injustice 2 has reached the hands of several media outlets, showing Batman and the Flash facing one another. The poster is supposed to be part of a GameStop offer to players who preorder the title.

Ed Boon, meanwhile, put up a couple tweets earlier about the issue. The first showed GameStop removed from his potential party list, and the second showed an image of Injustice 2 trending on Twitter with the question of "how to de-trend something."

E3 officially starts Sunday, June 12, 2016.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Bracket Notables for Evo 2014

Returning for its second year in a row, Injustice:Gods Among Us will be at Evolution 2014! Although people have doubted its place in the lineup, the contenders this year are stronger than ever, making for a truly brutal competition. I believe this year’s tournament will not disappoint!

I have compiled a list of notable players for Injustice:Gods Among Us. As a note, I’ve added a double forward slash symbol ( “ // “ ) to indicate what side of the bracket the player is in their pool, as I felt like this was important for predicting pools outcomes. Names separated by the forward slash are on opposite sides of the bracket. Pools with no names in front of it means I have not found notable players in that pool.

Hit the jump for the list.
