NorCal Regionals 2016 trailer released

The promotional trailer for NorCal Regionals 2016 is now available.

NCR will be returning to the Holiday Inn Sacramento Capitol Plaza in California's capital for the third straight year. From March 25-27, the tournament will host Street Fighter V, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and Mortal Kombat X. SFV is part of the Capcom Pro Tour as a Premier Event.

While the aforementioned games are part of the main list, players can also participate in the Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round and Killer Instinct community tournaments.

NorCal Regionals 2016 Announced, March 25-27 at Sacramento, CA

NorCal Regionals is heading back to the California capital of Sacramento for 2016.

This will be the third consecutive entry that NCR will be at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Capitol Plaza. From March 25-27, the Northern California major will host Street Fighter V, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and Mortal Kombat X. SFV is part of the Capcom Pro Tour as a Premier Event.

While the aforementioned games are part of the main list, players can also participate in the Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round and Killer Instinct community tournaments.

Registration for NCR 2016 is live with different packages. If you are planning to register, there are multiple options with various benefits including the weekend-long After Hours Room. If you are looking to stay at the Holiday Inn, it's priced at $99 a night.

Capitol Fight District at Gamerz Phunk Lab on April 25, Win a Mad Catz TE2 to Aid Venue Recovering from Robbery

Capitol Fight District wants players to help a game store recuperate from an unfortunate occurrence.

CFD venue Gamerz Phunk Lab was struck by a robbery earlier in the week. With the April 25 tournament date, CFD and GPL are planning to hold Ultra Street Fighter IV, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat X and Killer Instinct. To also help pay for the expenses, the usual venue fee when bringing a set up will not be waived so everyone participating in the tournament will have to pay the $5 cost.

They will also raffling off an Ultra Street Fighter IV-branded Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2 for the PlayStation 4 this weekend to help pay for the expenses. Every $10 donation will gain any contributor, from both at the tournament and online, an entry to win the stick until the raffle's deadline on May 2.

Capitol Fight District Presents Mortal Kombat X Launch Party at Gamerz Phunk Lab on April 13

Coming out of the Extra Life Pre-NorCal Regionals tournament session, Capitol Fight District will be hosting a launch event for Mortal Kombat X.

Working with game store Gamerz Phunk Lab, CFD will have a free tournament for MKX on April 13 before the eventual release at midnight. The event will start at 8:00 p.m. PST so players can try out the game, and the tournament will begin at 9:00 p.m. due to rules set by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The tournament will be two out of three matches followed by three out of five in grand finals. Single or double elimination format will be chosen based on attendance.

First place in the tournament gets a free copy of MKX while second place can get a $50 card for Xbox Live or PlayStation Network and third place receives $25 off at GPL. Raffles prizes include a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One, all with a copy of MKX included!

The Silicon Valley tournament series will be returning this Friday!

HackerFight is a special tournament series in the San Francisco Bay Area featuring players from both major and startup tech companies such as Twitch, Capcom, Google, Sony and more. These players represent their companies in a three-man team tournament format for both Ultra Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

All will take place at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California. For those who can't attend, IPLAYWINNER will be streaming the whole event. If you work for a tech company in the Bay and have two other people who can compete, you can sign up now at HackerFight's website. Capitol Fight District Presents Tournament for Extra Life Charity Event at Gamerz Phunk Lab on Mar. 28

In my home of Sacramento, Capitol Fight District will be having a pre-NorCal Regionals tournament for Extra Life.

Hosted at video game store Gamerz Phunk Lab, CFD will be running a 12-hour tournament event on March 28 to collect donations for the Children's Miracle Network at UC Davis Children's Hospital as part of Extra Life. The event will have tournaments for all major games to be hosted at NorCal Regionals: Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Being a 12-hour event, it will go from noon to midnight on March 29 so if you need to practice before NCR, this is a great opportunity to get a lot of casuals in. All venue proceeds will go to UC Davis Children's Hospital. You can also donate directly at the Extra Life page. More information on the charity event can be found on the Facebook event page.

NorCal Regionals 2015 Announced, Returning to Sacramento on Apr. 3-5

NorCal Regionals will be returning to the capital of California this coming April.

The 2015 edition of NCR is scheduled for April 3-5 at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Capitol Plaza, the same venue as the 2014 iteration. Aside from the date reveal, NCR2015 will also bring back the community voted lineup from 2014 so if you want to see your favorite fighter, stay tuned!

The latest episode of Super Desperation Radio is now available for watching on IPLAYWINNER'S YouTube channel.

Special guests Rose from Pandora House and David from Are You Gaming? joined the cast this week to talk about the NorCal Fight Club League. The two guests talked about how NFCL was created, the first week of competition and even managed to talk a little trash with Hellpockets.

Rose and David also talked about the upcoming rounds of NFCL, even dropping several hints about the unknown location of the third round.

The SDR crew also tackled other recent developments, such as the revelation of Kano in MKX, the recent USF4 bug list and the $1,000 free Injustice tournament at NEC15.

Pandora House And IPW Present: NorCal Fight Club League This Friday (8/8) - Updated With Results And Replays

The long-awaited NorCal Fight Club League is here! Pandora House is looking to find out who truly is the best of the best in the region.

Here's how it's going down. This League will consist of 3 individual rounds taking place at various locations. The qualified 14 players will battle it out. The points scored at each location will carry over and accumulate to determine the victor at the end of the season. That's only the beginning  because there's more. Not only does the person who accumulates the most point at the end of the season gets crowned as CHAMPION of Nor Cal, they will be inducted into the "A League" for season 2!!! Along with that, the champion will be joined by the distinguished top 4 fighters just right below him into the A League as they sit comfortably for the next season!

Goodbye To Super Street Fighter IV: AE2012 Tournament At Capitol Fight District Tomorrow

My area's local tournament series is saying farewell to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012!

Sacramento's Capitol Fight District will be holding one more tournament for AE2012 before the impending release of Ultra Street Fighter IV! It's located at coffee house Son of a Bean, across from the county's independent newspaper Sacramento News & Review. The tournament will have sign ups at 12pm with matches starting at 1pm so if you are planning to go, please be there before it begins!

Norcal Strongstyle Rome, Italy Qualifier Announced, June 28-29, 2014

Tekken players in Italy now have a chance to win a trip to the upcoming Norcal Strongstyle!

This international qualifier will take place in Rome on June 28-29, 2014, where players compete to win a roundtrip ticket to California with free registration, sans $20 entry fee, to Strongstyle. The first place winner will be able to hang out with founder Bronson Tran himself.

Norcal Strongstyle, Tekken Tournament, Returns With Fifth Entry On Sep. 27-28, 2014

The major Tekken-central tournament in NorCal returns!

The fifth edition of Norcal Strongstyle will take place on Sep. 27-28, 2014, at the San Mateo Event Pavillion in San Mateo, Calif. Strongstyle will have Tekken Tag Tournament 2 singles at the event and more to be announced in the future.

It was announced during Avoiding the Puddle Live when guest Bronson Tran was on the show.

NorCal Regionals 2014 Trailer Revealed

The annual event will take place this year on April 18-20, 2014, in Sacramento, Calif. Melee, Killer Instinct and Divekick, as well as returning classics such as Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Capcom vs. SNK 2.

Capitol Fight District At Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento On March 7-9

The upcoming Wizard World convention at Sacramento will be hosting fighting game tournaments throughout the whole March 7-9, 2014 weekend.

Capitol Fight District will be working with Wizard World in having a game room and tournaments for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Killer Instinct, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Super Smash Bros. Melee. There will also be casuals for those who are not playing in any of the tournaments.

The game room is located at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento Hotel, next door to the Sacramento Convention Center Complex where Wizard World will take place.

Attendees of Wizard World Sacramento can come into the game room free of charge. For those only interested in playing in the game room, you can pay for a special $20 pass that lasts throughout the whole weekend.

Capitol Fight District will be returning to the Arcadia Bar & Resturant for the second time on Feb. 8, 2014. Just a couple of minutes away from downtown Sacramento, CFD will be running Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Injustice: Gods Among Us, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Killer Instinct (if possible).

Players from all over Sacrmento as well as surrounding areas including Davis and Fairfield come to CFD and if you are in the area, please come by! Along with a stream on Twitch, local media outlets including Access Sacramento and Sacramento News & Review will be there to cover the event.
