Ed Boon Says MKX Will Have More New Characters Than Ever Before

IGN's Luke Karmali recently talked to series creator Ed Boon about the upcoming Mortal Kombat X and its "new blood," so to speak, the new story and characters.

Boon said that while characters like Cassie Cage will not rule out the inclusion of related classic character like her parents, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, the focus is on bringing new players to the forefront. He even said that NetherRealm Studios is "probably introducing more [new characters] in this game than in any other MK title ever." Boon was quick, however, to say that old favorites could always be added to the game later by way of DLC.

Boon also talked more about MKX's story and the time jumps that will occur throughout. He claimed that gamers will see big shifts in power over the course of the narrative, and that flashbacks and jumps forward of 5 to 10 years will be used. Boon even admitted that once the story of MKX is complete he's not sure where Mortal Kombat will go from there.

The whole interview can be found at IGN.

NIS America to Publish Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!!, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late in Europe

Europe has not always had the easiest time getting releases for fighting games in a timely manner. Persona 4 Arena, for example, was released almost a year after both the U.S. and Japan had seen a console release. However, perhaps times are changing as Siliconera is reporting that NIS America is taking over duties to release both the newest versions of Arcana Heart and Under Night in Europe.

Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! is due out before the end of 2014 for both PlayStation 3 and Vita, and UNiEL—like the U.S. version—will be released sometime in 2015.

New Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- Images Show Different Game Modes

Gematsu has posted several screenshots of the upcoming console version of GG Xrd, showing off some of the modes that will be available when the game launches Dec. 4 in Japan.

Players of Arc System Works games will immediately notice Story, Training Mode and Challenge Mode all returning, as in other ASW titles such as BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena. What is new, however, is Xrd's Player Match lobby system. According to the article, "up to eight people can enter a room, and four matches are carried out simultaneously ... watch other players’ matches, and text and AV chat with other users in the room."

This seems much different from the arcade-style worldwide lobby used in BlazBlue Chronophantasma and the upcoming Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. However, it is unknown if the Player Match lobby shown in the screenshots is the only way to challenge other players outside of Ranked Match.

Check out the rest of images at Gematsu.

Super Desperation Radio Episode 322 Archive Online

The latest episode of Super Desperation Radio is now available for watching on IPLAYWINNER'S YouTube channel.

Hot on the heels of the announcement that SNK Playmore is looking to hire developers to work on a new KOF game, SDR and especially Walkman took some time to air their grievances with the current video game industry. Taking aim mostly at the focus on mobile games by many big companies, the hosts argued for more balanced platform representation going forward.

The crew then talked about several smaller topics, including the recent Chaos Code beta test, before settling on the seemingly chaotic movements of player sponsorships in the fighting game community. The cast talked about the recents moves to join, and then leave, Revolution Gaming as well as the realities of what sponsorship means—and what it doesn't—in fighters.

Super Desperation Radio is live every Monday at 6:30 p.m. PST on Twitch and YouTube.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- Releases December 4 in Japan

According to Siliconera, which cites leaks from Famitsu, the latest entry in the Guilty Gear franchise will launch on Dec. 4, 2014, in Japan for both PlayStation 3 and 4.

The game will be released by Aksys Games in the U.S. but currently has no concrete street date, although it is scheduled to launch in 2014 as well.

The timing of the proposed release will give players very little time to practice for several winter tournaments, including Northeast Championships and Frosty Faustings. And with no U.S. release date set as of yet, it will be interesting to see if the two releases will be simultaneous or not.

Video: Intermediate Yuzuriha Guide and Combos

Fragarach on YouTube has posted a translation of a guide teaching new players the basics of Yuzuriha in Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late. Yuzuriha has several special techniques in UNiEL, with some allowing her to bypass the rules of her stance and get a much greater damage output than she would otherwise. The video breaks these methods down into their components so players can start to understand the notation in which her combos are written, as well as begin to use the character to the fullest.

The 12-minute video is not completely translated, as the parts explaining each individual combo were skipped in favor of the more technical aspects of the character. Fragrach's channel also has more UNiEL videos, including guides for Linne, Hyde and Eltnum.

Second Strongstyle 5 Trailer Released

Norcal Strongstyle has released its second trailer, giving participants a better idea of what to expect at the event when it occurs on September 27-28, 2014, in San Mateo, California.

The biggest news from the trailer is that the format of pools at Strongstyle will be a 2-out-of-3, round robin format, with semifinals and top 8 being the normal 3-out-of-5 format. This decision changes preparation for the tournament tremendously, as now players will have to be prepared for a lot of sets with a potential for a large number of opposing characters.

Other news from the trailer includes a list of newly confirmed players who will attend the event, as well as Bronson Tran's rationale for there being no stream at Strongstyle. According to Tran, every match at SS5 will be recorded and the event will then be released later in a "high production package" that will feature commentary, match breakdowns and player interviews that go inside the match and explain to the viewers how it all happened.

Super Desperation Radio Episode 320 Archive Online

The latest episode of Super Desperation Radio is now available for watching on IPLAYWINNER'S YouTube channel.'

It was a full house for SDR as the cast talked about Evolution 2014. It seemed as if Nocturnal would be filling in for Ayaikun, but the mention of anime brought the missing host onto the show as everyone shared their stories from the weekend.

The show was then joined by another guest as ComMando visited the cast to talk about the upcoming throwback tournament being held by Super Arcade in November 2014. While he couldn't say much about the details of the event, the man who runs IEBattlegrounds had a couple pieces of information he could offer SDR.

Lastly, the crew discussed all the recent airdasher news: from the release of UNiEL this week, to the revelations of new characters for both BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Persona 4 Arena 2, all the way to Arc Revolution Cup in August.

Super Arcade Celebrating 10th Anniversary of Evo Moment 37 with Throwback Tournament

At Evolution 2004, the now-famous Daigo Parry—Evo Moment #37—occurred, and to celebrate the 10 years since that event Super Arcade has announced a throwback tournament to take place November 21-23, 2014. The event, which will take place in the same hall as Evo 2004 at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, will feature the same lineup of games that made up Evo that year: Capcom vs. SNK 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

Super Arcade owner Mike Watson says other games may be added, including an "Ultra Street Fighter IV tourney on the side so some of you 09'ers have something to play."

SG Chooses Lord Knight as Partner for Arc Revolution Cup 2014

As part of being the top placing U.S. player in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma at Evolution 2014, SG has been given a qualification into Arc Revolution Cup, Arc System Works' SBO-like event that is now in its second year. As BBCP is a 2v2 event, he has also been given the right to select a partner.

Earlier this morning, SG revealed that player to be Lord Knight:

"My Arc Revo 2014 partner will be ! Cheer us on! :D"

While supporters and detractors have already made their feelings known about the choice, it is important to remember that Arc Revo Cup will be played on the arcade version of BBCP. This almost completely disqualifies pad players and those who use special button configurations from being able to play in the event.

Arc Revolution Cup will take place on August 30 in Tokyo as part of Japan Gamer's Live.
